*FREE Pattern: Oma Mary's Haus Slippers

OMA MARY's SLIPPER KNITTING PATTERN:

Supplies Needed:
2- Skeins Acrylic Yarn *you can use both the same color skeins to achieve solid-colored slippers, or 2 different complimentary colors to give the slippers a speckled effect*
1-Pair of Size 10 Knitting Needles
4- Double Pointed Size 10 or 11 Knitting Needles
1- Yarn Sized Needle (for sewing up slipper heel)
1- Size 5.0 MM Crochet Hook (for adding finishing trim)
1- Large Stitch Holder or Safety Pin

SLIPPER HEEL:
Using both skeins of yarn, cast on 40 stitches (as a double strand) to one of the size 10 knitting needles. You will be creating the heel part of the slipper as a large rectangle.

Row 1: K40
Row 2: K15, P1, K8, P1, K15
Rows 3-28: *Repeat Rows 1 & 2, 14 more times*

Bind of 3 stitches. Transfer the next 34 stitches, evenly divided onto 3 of the double pointed needles.  Put the final remaining 3 stitchesonto the safety pin/stitch holder.

SLIPPER FOOT/TOE:

You will now be knitting in the round with the 4 double pointed needles to create the foot/toe part of the slipper. With the first knit stitch, you will be joining the 2 sides of the rectangular heel piece.

Rows/Rounds 1- 24: K2, P2 (repeat)
Row/Round 25: K2, P2 Together (repeat)
Row/Round 26: K2, K2 Together (repeat)
Row/Round 27+: K2, K2 Together (repeat until there are less than 10 stitches remaining on your needles)

Cut your yarn from the skeins, leaving a 4 inch tail.  Put this tail onto the yarn needle and carefully sew through the remaining stitches on the knitting needles, pulling them off the needles as you do so.  Flip the slipper inside out, and pull the yarn needle and tail tight to cinch the toe of the slipper.  Sew the tail a few times to close the toe entirely, and tie off the tail pieces flush with the knitting. Cut the remaining tail ends.

FINISHING:

Put 1 skein of yarn back onto the yarn needle and tie securely into the knit work at the back of the slipper heel.  Starting at the top (where the opening of the slipper will be), Carefully sew the two sides together.  Once you near the bottom of the slipper (you will notice the two ‘stockinette’ rows you knitted), loop your needle through all the stitches at the heel & cinch tight.  This will create the rounded heel of the slipper.  Sew any remaining holes or gaps up, and tie the tail of the yarn off.

You now have one completed slipper...almost! You will notice there are still 3 stitches on your holder/ safety pin at the front of the slipper opening. You will pick these up as you crochet the finishing edging around the opening. Using your crochet hook and your chosen (single skein) color of yarn, pickup the top-most knit stitches and single chain around the opening edge. When you reach the safety pin/ holder, use these 3 stitches to chain as you remove them from the holder.  Continue crocheting around the opening one more round, adding a double or scallop crocheted row to your first chain of stitches.  Cut the yarn and securely tie off on the inside of the slipper.

*Repeat entire pattern to create 2nd slipper*

Merci
